They say
that the eyes are
the windows
to the soul.
The one true way to know...
really know someone.
This I believe
is true.
If one were to look
into mine,
deeply...
not just a glance,
but very
deeply...
a myriad of things
could be seen.
These eyes,
sometimes the color of
stagnant water,
cold, unmoving, sad,
have seen
Pain...
illness and suffering...
death...
the loss of love...
the passage of time and
having to move on...
a million tears shed,
a million more
waiting.
These eyes,
sometimes the color of
the sky before a tornado strikes,
turbulent, uneasy, unsettled,
have seen
Fear...
an injury to a loved one...
an attack by a stranger...
of growing old alone...
of growing old...
a million tears shed,
a million more
waiting.
These eyes,
sometimes the color of
a deep ocean current,
dark, brooding, bottomless,
have seen
Anger...
of being cheated on...
of being stalked...
of man's inhumanities to man...
of all the bad things that happen to good people...
a million tears shed,
a million more,
waiting.
These eyes,
sometimes the color of
brilliant emeralds,
blazing, sparkling, alive,
have seen
Passion...
the hot smoldering look in a lover's eyes...
a flame ignited by pure lust...
uninhibited, wanton, and primal...
hunger waiting to be sated...
a million tears shed,
a million more
waiting.
These eyes,
sometimes the color of
the flame when copper burns,
dancing, eager, burning,
have seen
Joy...
the birth of a son...
the finding of a soulmate...
living life to the fullest...
limitless love...
a million tears shed,
a million more
waiting.
These eyes,
sometimes the color of
dying grass,
pale green with flecks of brown,
have seen
Happiness...
of making new friends...
of seeing new places...
of making others smile...
and laughing just because it feels good...
a million tears shed,
a million more
waiting.
These eyes,
the windows to my soul,
stand open and unguarded,
beckoning and welcoming
to those that really want to know me,
to those that have the will and the courage
to look deeply into them.
