Welcome to the current appearance schedule for Hal C. F. Astell, representing Apocalypse Later, the Arizona Penny Dreadfuls, the Awesomelys, Westercon 70 or just myself. Here's the equivalent page for 2016.
Here's where you can find out where I'll be doing things out and about, whether I'm running events, working events or selling at events.
Come on out and say hi. Whenever I'm selling my books, they will be priced at less than you'll see on Amazon and I'll be happy to sign them for you.
I'm very happy to have been invited back to the fantastic Wild Wild West Con for a fourth year to MC the steampunk fashion show and screen three new sets of steampunk short films from around the globe.
I'll be back as press for this year's IHSFFF with daily coverage at Apocalypse Later Now! This is my favourite film festival (except my own), not only because it was my first. I reviewed every IHSFFF film, short and feature, plus some other Phoenix Film Festival films and started with an Interview with Monte Yazzie.
I'm proud to be a returning guest at Cirque du Livre, 'a new kind of writer's conference', which runs from Friday to Sunday. My books will be available for purchase through Bonny Books. I'll be signing too, but the schedule hasn't been announced yet.
I'll be at my vendor table at Phoenix Comicon more this year, which is part of the Amazing Wyked Writers block (AA1300-AA1322). My books will be available for purchase from Duncan's Books and More at that location. However, I'll still be MC'ing the Steampunk Fashion Show and leading three more panels for the Awesomelys. It just wouldn't be PHXCC without those!
LepreCon, our local sci-fi convention, is also Westercon 70 this year, a bigger regional convention. My better half is the chair and I'm the chair's general all-purpose minion (ie the Chair of Vice). As I'll be putting out fires throughout the weekend, I won't be doing much panel work, but I will be hosting an Apocalypse Later mini-film festival on the Friday night before the con officially starts and one Awesomely panel too.
I'll be at the Jerome Indie Film & Music Festival again this year for the fifth annual event, though my press coverage will come afterwards.
It's a new name, but it's the same con in most ways: it's in the same place at the same time of year and it's run by the same folk. What used to be Gaslight Gathering is now Gaslight Steampunk Expo. I'll be back this year with at least another Apocalypse Later mini-film festival and maybe some panels. Details to come.
This is my own film festival, which is the only annual dedicated genre-based film festival in the fifth largest city in the United States. Year two's event has grown to one full day of genre features and short films. All for a measly $30 and I'm handing out free popcorn! My books will be available for sale at this event.
I'm looking forward to the Tempe Book Festival, which I've never attended before, let alone sold books at. I'll be consigning through Duncan's Books and More.
My better half and I would have been at TusCon this year anyway, but the wonderful folk who run it have stunned us by making us their Fan Guests of Honor, so we'll be there with bells on.
Bob Nelson and his creative team behind Brick Cave Media and the Cirque du Livre writers conference are debuting a full book festival in Mesa and I'm very happy to be part of it. I'll be consigning through Bonny Books and Duncan's Books and More.
